Conrad,

from which version did you upgrade? What are your application pool settings (.NET CLR version)? Are you using any third party modules and/or skins and/or other extensions? Did you unblock the ZIP file before applying it?

Please note:

- DotNetNuke 6 requires Microsoft SQL Server or SQL Express 2005 or higher - it works with 2014 as well, I have not tested it with SQL Server 2016 yet
- Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services) 5 or higher
- Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 or higher

Happy DNNing!
Michael

I've had the most success in upgrading old sites when I follow the suggested upgrade path at http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/sugge....

In this care, upgrade first to 05.06.08, then to 06.02.08, and to 06.08.09.

Hopefully that will go better.

When I do things like this, I also make complete backups after each step (database and files) so that I can go back to a previous step if things go wrong.

(And, this is a perfect example of why regular updates/upgrades are always an excellent thing to do.)

Joseph is right, that's what I would have suggested as well.

Also: Find the upgrade path in a testing environment. Test after each step. Check for upgraded versions of all your extensions - include them in the appropriate upgrade steps (e.g., you can add a module upgrade ZIP file in the /Install/Modules folder before you run the DNN upgrade, it will then be installed during the update process). Make a backup after each successful step. Write down what you have done in these steps. And finally do the upgrade in your production environment (but: backup everything before you start to be able to return when the upgrade fails for some reason).

Happy DNNing!
Michael
