I've got a website with many pages. Most content is unique, however there's a use case for using existing modules when content is repeated. This way, when that module is edited, it'll be updated on all pages. On pages that are using the existing module (and not the page where the original module exists), the existing modules are not editable, which is exactly what we want.

If a site has a couple thousand pages, and many of them share the same content via existing modules, it's difficult to find where to edit that content. When using existing modules, is there a way to see where the original module is located?

Barry,

In the Module Settings you can get a list where you find on which other pages that module exists. But I cannot find a way to determine which is the page with the "original" version of the module.

In your case, the user has edit permissions on the page level of at least one of the pages where the module is placed, and no edit permissions on another page. This could be dangerous, as he could change the permissions and other settings for the module (and all other modules on that page!), but maybe he should only be able to edit the content of this specific module. When you grant the edit permission only on the module level, he is able to edit the content, but not the settings. And then he can edit the content on any instance of the module on any page without the need of edit page permissions.

Happy DNNing!
Michael
