I've recently changed to the PersonaBar from the ControlBar in version 09.01.01. I was previosly using the ControlBar because of an unresolved issue with the following error when trying to access Pages and Page Settings from PersonaBar.

"There was an error retrieving your content. Please check your internet connection"

This error is very generic and there is no issue with the internet connection. DNN is not logging any error information as it would if the ControlBar was being used, so it seems to be related to the JavaScript libraries that the PersonaBar uses.

Any clues on how to debug or fix this? How do you get any real or useful debugging information from the "PersonaBar"?

Tried changing the following settings as suggested to others for the same "There was an error retrieving your content". 

None of the format options corrected the issue.

<add name="DNNFriendlyUrl" type="DotNetNuke.Services.Url.FriendlyUrl.DNNFriendlyUrlProvider, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" includePageName="true" regexMatch="a-zA-Z0-9 _-" urlFormat="advanced"/>


The options for urlFormat are:

  • "advanced"
  • "humanfriendly"
  • "searchfriendly"

You should use Advanced URL format for DNN 9, I strongly suggest clearing local browser cache and retry.

The json call works with PersonaBar when I rebuilt the web.config.  Took the web.config from a new 9.1 install then line by line put/modified what was in the orig back in.  Left out the stuff the 9 update removed.  We also need human friendly because our Crystal Report Viewer will not work without it.

But seriously for the future how do I debug this?  There is no useful info being returned with the error.
