Hello,

After enabling Synchronize role in some ancient version of dnn we randomly get an error.

 

Server Error in '/'Application

 

Request timed out.

 

Description: An unhandled exception occured during the execution of the current web request.  Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException:Request timed out.

 

Source Error:

 

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request.  Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

[HttpException (0x80004005): Request timed out.]

Too little to go off of here, but a couple assumptions - 1) your maxrequestlength is to small.  2) You have a ton of files to process.  Where the sync recursively goes through the files and adds/updates/deletes from the filemanager - a very intensive process if you're just turning it on now for a old old version of DNN.

Not the most helpful, but hopefully points a way.

I have to correct Andrew - AFAIK this is not file related but might be caused by database anomalies.

AFAIR this job is used for AD synchronization, how many roles are there in your AD?

AD provider is the only component which uses Synchronize roles, AFAIK.
