Hi

trying my hand at installing a DNN on a new VMM after using other people's install for ten years plus.

Nice clean server 2012 VM with SQL 2008 and MySql. Have since installed sql manger 2012.

Followed Chris Hammond's video to the letter. However, at the database connect part of the install wizard it always comes back:

No valid default database connection detected. Standard Database setup option is unavailable

and the last error message was:

ERROR:Index #: 0

Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 20
Number: -1
Message:

I have tried every permutation of SQL, MySql and naming that  as a non-developer I can muster to no avail.  trie defaults and sql udefined IDs etc for user sa.

The log files are all blank when I open them, non printable characters maybe.

I refuse to be beaten, any suggestions.

Help?

welcome to the DNN community!

As I don't know how you installed SQL Server this is hard to say. Please check if the account that the IIS Application Pool is running has the necessary permissions on the database in SQL Server. MySQL is definitely not an option.

Otherwise I would recommend using a tool that does the installation for you, like nvQuickSite (https://www.nvquicksite.com/) from David Poindexter.

didn't realise such things existed, sadly the web site throws error code...

However, I'll try your suggestions and see where that gets me.
