It seems the Store module includes a module with a Friendly name of Categories and that is causing a conflict/non friendly error when people try to install my Categories module. At the core level, it seems DNN needs a way to deal with Friendly name conflicts as I'm sure there have been and will be others. But in the short term, I'm not sure what we should do about this. It's going to be a major problem as the Store Module is now installed as part of the core (which I think is silly as only a small percentage of sites need a store and it's a fairly big heavy beast) and a ton of people already have Efficion's Categories module installed.

Thoughts?

David,

AFAIK this has been corrected in the latest versions. Besides all Module Developers outside the core team are advised to prefix their Modules with their Company Name/Brand or an Abbreviation of it.

Can you tell me more of what was corrected? I know a user reported a problem with 4.3.3...

Also, I'm not a big fan of prefacing my module names with my Company name... while it's good branding for me and perhaps helpful to higher level hosts/admins... It seems it'd be confusing to a lot of admins as my company name has nothing to do with what the module does, it's just a distraction.

David,

in the first version 1.00.00, Store Menu had a friendly name "Categories". This should have been replaced with "Store Categories", but I just checked 1.00.01, and it is still present. I expect this to be altered in next version and added it to the appropriate Issue in Gemini http://support.dotnetnuke.com/Default.aspx?p=31&i=2725.

Anyhow, I recommend any 3rd party developer to prefix their modules, I have portals with many HTML or article modules, where it is preferable to distinct them easily from the menu. Same for hosters with many inhomogenous installations, using different modules due to customer requests, that need to identify easily the modules installed/used. I agree, that there should be a remaning mechanism for the dropdown list, important especially in the context of localization and I expect, that there will be an extension in this area in one of the next DNN versions.
