I must say that I usually like new upgrades and new "bells and whistles."  But this new Announcements module upgrade (3.1.5 from 3.1.0) has been a disappointment.

  1. The change from setting the expiry date to the publish date is interesting but it showed every single message in each annoucement module through the site (the messages that previously did not show as they were "expired").  I'm still in the middle of having to go in and change the settings.
  2. Getting rid of the expiry date is also frustrating.  It's nice to have a specific expiry date for given announcements so that they can linger longer than others.  Combining the two features (a publish date AND expiry date) would be ideal.  And set it so that an expiry date setting would override the "days viewable" setting.  This way you would have most announcements lasting for a given number of days and some that you could set to expire sooner or later.
  3. The publish date that shows with the announcement also has to be manually changed.  With the recetn update it shows two dates.  The original date - which was concatenated into the Title string under the previsous version - and the new publish date which is added to the Title at run time.  This is more frustrating that having to change each module setting through the site.

Is there a faster way to do some of these changes?  Did I miss something?

> Announcements module upgrade (3.1.5 from 3.1.0)

the current version is 3.03.04.....

I hear you. We have been discussing this issue. The problem is that the field was removed prior to me becoming Team Leader, and now i have to come up with a way to fix it....

What i will probably do is create a new version soon where the deletion of the field will be undone, and in a later version offer some way to fully support an expiry date, that will upgrade older modules correctly as well

cheers,

Erik

I totally agree with your frustrations and I sure hope they repair it soon. What I ended up doing is uninstalling the new version and tracked down the previous version.

I with you guys here. The elimination of the expiration date is a gigantic problem. As a matter of fact the expiration date was the only reason my users use the module. Having both would be ideal, but IMHO the expiration is far more important the the start date.

Please get this back for us ASAP!

Any update on these plans?  I've recently upgraded and now have a bunch of sites showing all of their announcements.  Has anyone written a DB script that sets up good defaults?

Please, let's go back to the functionality with a publish and expire date for each announcement.  I dislike the loss of control.

Tim
