Well, I just don't know what the hell I'm doing. I've got an older install of DNN 2.1.2 I think.

I'm setting up the latest 4.x release from scratch.

windows 2003 enterprise
IIS 6.0
latest asp 2.0 patched
SQL 2000 8.00.818

I can connect all day long via query analyzer all day long with the user setup and the db setup.

I get the generic errror message.

I can't find just the simple instructions on setting up the latest 4.x build.

Please help an idiot!

Thanks,
Wes

Well, I did the setup from scratch about a dozen times. I followed the docs, I looked on the web. Finally I kicked the cat nothing worked.

I was trying to get it to work with a path of http://www.mysite.com/dnn It just wouldn't take error after error running around in circles with errors that said it couldn't connect to the database.

My last try I changed it to be its own root at put it at http://dnn.mysite.com I didn't delete the DB or the files. I didn't change my web.config nothing and the install worked just fine.

Am I just crazy or will it only work from a root directory perspective?

Thanks again,
Wes
