Hi,
I've created a module for DNN 4 called ReportGrid.
It's basically an extension of the Reports module.
The added features are:
  • Permit database selection from DropDownList enumerating the web.config connection strings. This enable to create queries from Oracle, SQL Server and others.
  • Test Connection button in Settings page
  • Test Query button in Settings page
Where I can publish the module? There's a forum that allows attachments?
Any suggestion are appreciated

Most of the developers host the downloads on their own sites.

Have a look at the various directory sites, AFAIR few of them offer to provide free modules for download.

If you want to demo it somewhere there is a User Submitted Module section on Smart-Thinker. We get 2500 page views a day so your module would get could exposure -

http://www.smart-thinker.com/ProductsandModules/UserSubmittedModules/tabid/443/Default.aspx

Contact me if you want to discuss it... you'd get good traffic but your module must be of a certain standard..

Hi,
thanks for your reply,

I don't own a personal web space and I don't feel to start now having one.As I said I've created a set of modifies of the Reports module.
I believe I kept the module's standard used by Core team.

Your solution (smart-thinker) looks like what I was looking for.

Few questions:
  • Do I just need to Register? Is it for free?
  • Can I create a small Article Page that contains HTML + Screenshots + Download files (like www.codeproject.com)

  • Can I edit my article page? Or it works like a forum where I can not change my posts?

  • Can I receive feedback's from people who uses my module in something like an Article forum (again like www.codeproject.com)
If so you are my hero! And I'll be glad to publish my ReportGrid and (lately when it will be ready) my ReportChart.

Thanks in advance for your help
Best Regards
Danilo

Hello Danilo,

Yes, that is the idea behind the User-Submitted module section – it’s for people who want to take advantage of Smart-Thinker’s market/brand power and provide a standard interface without having to set up their own website. Yes, it is free, and I am tweaking it to see how it works out. The idea is that it is mutually beneficial – Smart-Thinker gets more traffic from your module users, and you get a LOT of traffic from Smart-Thinker browsers, as well as a Forum and interface to maintain your module.

There are a couple of conditions you need to agree to before you can publish it-

You need to adhere to the basic look and feel of the other product pages – e.g. http://www.smart-thinker.com/ProductsandModules/HomePage/tabid/159/Default.aspx  (I will set the basic layout up for you)

I need to review and approve the module (no offense, but there are a lot of inferior quality modules and I need to make sure it will not harm the website). The module must be of a good standard and must not compete with any Smart-Thinker modules

Either of us can notify the other and cancel this agreement at any time with no reason necessary (this is to safeguard against abuse.

You must keep your module information up to date and accurate. All fairly standard stuff you’d expect from such an agreement.

Once approved – I will give you edit rights over your content. I will upload your module and give you the basic layout – you then edit the content (which I will approve too). I will then make some public announcements to generate traffic to your modules. You will also get your own Forum (under User-Submitted modules) to monitor feedback, as well as a download links. You still own the IP of the module (the Smart-Thinker pages and data remains the IP of Smart-Thinker. We are in no way affiliated with your module (e.g. we do not necessarily endorse it).

One thing - I am a little worried if it is the Reports module – the problem is that people must not be able to do SQL queries on the Smart-Thinker database. From what I saw of the Reports module it was very powerful in the wrong hands.

If this is successful then I will be making the User Submitted Module section a lot more prominent on Smart-Thinker.com which will mean even more traffic.

Lets move this to email to discuss this further (you need to register so I can give you edit rights over your section – let me know your username).
