I'm looking at DNN as a candidate for my existing site. I have installed a clean version of DNN 4.3.3 StarterKit, and applied the Swedish translation pack, at my local server (Win Server 2003 R2 Enterprice Ed + Visual Studio 2005 Pro Ed.)

I’m not a programmer and don’t want to need messing with the core code. Translation of the core code or Admin/host side of the DNN is not at all essential or a critical matter for me and many other Hosts/Admins, but the frontpages that my visitors/readers meets must be translated into our native language, in my case Swedish.

I run the Resource File Verifier, and was nearly chocked to find 6 missing files, entries and obsolete entries in the original English language and 247 in the Swedish language in my clean new installation. Especially when I found out that I need to manually open each file in the Language Editor.

I have had some trouble figuring out if and if so where to make the necessary changes in order to have my Swedish public to meet a Swedish DNN. Is it possible at all?

Tomas

Tomas,

the issues mentioned in the resource verifier for the English resources are just 6 files with duplicate entries, that should be removed in the source files before starting translation.

247 missing files look like the language pack has NOT been installed. Please note, that adding a language in the fromt page of languages opens the opion to create a translation, to install a language pack, you need to download it (have a look on to the language pack list here on www.dotnetnuke.com) and install it using the "upload language pack" option.

leupold,

I reinstalled the avalible Swedish lang.pack (ResourcePack[1].Full.03.00.13.sv.SE.zip) and the result then was:

Missing Resource files: 163
Files With Missing Entries: 43
Files With Obsolete Entries: 21

Some files didn't installed becaus the module wasn't found (Discussion, Image, SearchInput and Searchresult).

I have tryed to fix the two corrupt English resource filies within the Language Editor, without success. I don't really have a clue on how to solve this.

Any suggestion how I handle the Swedish language problems with missing resource files, missing entries and obsolete entries?

Hmm, 3.0.13 is really old. Try to contact the author, he might have an update (not all updates are submitted to www.dotnetnuke.com)

Otherwise you will need to complete the language pack by yourself. Some hints for this:

  • Discussion has been dropped
  • Image is now Media, you can unpack and rename existing files .

For DNN 4 you can manually move SearchInput and SearchResult file to /admin/search.

Other modules have recently been added to the download, there might be separate language packs around:

  • Blog
  • Forums
  • Gallery
  • Repository

Drop Store, the current version is not applicable outside the US.

All other files missing or with missing entries need to be completed, files with obsolete entries need to be saved only.

Note: there are about 12 files in resx V2 format, that get misinterpreted by resource verifier. In fact, they do not contain obsolete keys as stated.

Well, the Sweish lang.pack is done by the www.dotnetnuke.se - which seems to be the official Swedish DNN site. I asked the Admin about it and the answer was lack of time.

I will try to follow your advise, and se how far I will come.
