Hi All!

I have made a tiny modification to the Feedback module and would like it apply it to only ONE portal in my DNN installation.  Is there a way to do this without changing the way the module looks in other portals on that same DNN instance??

Any help is (as always) appreciated!
Kindest Regards,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,

I was told in the briefest of terms to make a duplicate of the module (folder) and then register it. I tried unsuccessfully to get any further clarification around this and another couple of forums, so then just went ahead and tried it on a portal I was going to kill anyway. It worked for the couple of modules I tried it on so you may as well go ahead.

I've even forgotten exactly what I did, but it was something like this:

  • Make a new folder in your desktopmodules folder e.g. Feedback-01.
  • Copy all files from the original feedback module's folder over to the new one.
  • Fire up your site, look for the new module in the Module Definitions page
  • Edit it and scroll down and click Add Control
  • At this point I kept a second window open with the same page for the original module visible. This allowed me to reproduce the exact settings.
  • Carry on until the new module is set up the same as the old one.

Then see if it works and lemme know how you get on.

Regards,
Rob

Rob,

If you duplicate a module for modifications, you will need to modify the namespace specified by the module as well

Hi Sebastian, thanks for the additional info.

For the sake of people like Kelly and myself who are clearly not .Net developers, would you also be able to add what that means and/or how to actually do it?

That would be very helpful,

Regards,
Rob

Excellent instructions, Rob!  Thanks so much!  Adding the control was the step I was missing.  I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Thanks to you too, Sebastian.  I'm afraid Rob's right, though - I'm not sure where to go to change the namespace.  I've tried looking online for help but haven't had any luck.  If you could shed some light I'd appreciate it.  I should probably also mention that the modification I made was strictly skinning - not functional. (If that makes a difference)

Thanks Again, Rob!

Kind Regards,
Kelly
