It has happened to me where I copied pages out of frontpage and stuck them into DNN - in the forms somewhere. I have deleted the forms and the pane came back........

That does sound like busted HTML. Make sure that all your table and form related tags are properly closed in the text you're copying.

It happens even when no changes are made and I'm canceling out of the edit window. I've copied the html source for the page into Visual Studio 2005 and there are many errors (missing closing tags, etc.) so it's hard to determine what's going on with the page.

I'm been trying to figure this out and tonight I canceled out of a page (didn't even attempt to make any changes) and all the modules ended up in the contentpane section of the page. I than noticed that all the other panes were gone. When this happens, the Move To menu option for the modules have limited panes listed to move to. To fix it, I've been selecting to move any of the modules to whatever pane is available on the menu. Then I would rearrange the modules the way they were.

Tonight, when they all went to the contentpane, I decided to just click on a different page than went back to the problem page and it was back to normal. Hopefully, my client will be able to do the same if this happens (she is setup as a limited admin user - access to specific modules on the site).

With me it definitely has something to do with forms. I did the same trick with visual studio and corrected all the errors, but still had the same problem. BUT if I remove <FORM> and </FORM> the problem goes away. After reading hundreds and hundreds of posts in forums I have discovered that forms dont actually work in dotnetnuke which is my problem! I have to either make them myself using visual studio or download a form making program such as ANYFORM which can do it for me. This I am going to try, will let you know how I get on. How ANNOYING!!!!

Have you checked that the td tag where the right pane is has valign="top"  this will keep the content of the right pane to the top.

I think I stumbled upon the answer to my problem - hopefully - time will tell. I had purchased a skin, installed it and began to use it on one of my portals. Soon after, I noticed this behavior which didn't happen consistently.

Yesterday, I purchased an additional skin, installed it and selected a specific variation of the skin (fixed width). Well, lo and behold, only 2 panes were available to use. I contacted the developer of the skin who mentioned that I probably selected the Fixed width - adm (skin for the admin page). They were correct. I incorrectly understood this to be the skin to be applied to both the portal pages and the admin pages.

I most likely selected the fixed width - adm skin for the first skin that I purchased. The behavior was a little different. It would happen now and then.

I will update this thread after a period of time to let everyone know if this was the problem.
