I am really trying to push DNN to my customers as an easy and intuative interface to allow non programmers to have a useful and up to date site.  However, the major push back that I'm receiving is that DNN is way too slow to load.  I'm working on a site that is based upon the DNN-Blue skin that takes over a minute to load.  What am I doing wrong!?!?!

I think this is a big issue that a lot of people are running into lately as dnn becomes more popular.  I just ported a old site to dnn and its is significantly slower than the old one.  This is definatly something that needs to be worked on.  The functionality and options you have with dnn are great but there hasn't been any definitive answer on how to solve speed issues as of yet.  I think for now you just have to sit tight unless your willing to try some hacking at the core yourself.  A lot of people say that it is because of the all the hits to the db but i dont see that as being a problem. lots of portal programs use a db to store info and are much faster. we need some core members to comment on the issue.

Is this only happening the first time they visit the site? In other words, if they first go to the site and takes a minutes to load, then immediately close browser, reopen, go to DNN site, does it still take a full minute to load?

It only happens the first time they hit it each day.  If you keep the site up or hit it often, then it's not too bad.

You're right, it is slow.

This was one of our topics in our weekly Core Team chat last night, and is high on the priority list.

For some immediate relief, you can try my free page caching module:
