Hi all!

I have been trying for a few days now to get my head round this... Simply, I am trying to install DNN.

I have unzipped the StarterKit, Source and Install downloads but cannot seem to find anyway of 'loading the program'.
Is there a .exe, for example, for installation?
I have read the DNN Installation Guide but it does not seem to address this (or am I missing it!?).

My objective is to build website. Which DNN package should I use and should I start with an earlier version?

Also, my client PC does not have SQL Server or the like but the server does (SBS2003) - should I be installing DNN on the server? I have IIS on all machines.

Please can someone help me solve this headace? I have searched the forums and am probably missing something quite obvious!
I only want to build a website...! :(

Thanks all!!
John

Assuming that you've setup a blank empty database, e.g. name DotNetNuke (or whatever) and you've given your application pool identity the rights described in the installation guide, etc., you should be able to unzip the install zip into your virtual directory, and then navigate to your site using something like http://localhost/DotNetNuke/default.aspx or http://localhost/DotNetNuke/install.aspx and the install should start.

If you get an error, check out this forum for similar errors.  There are a few common ones that are addressed, e.g. you may need to...most likely need to...modify the web.config connection strings to fit your environment or even just modify it to use a different connection method.

The source is only important if you plan to program......you need Visual Studio or Visual Web Express

The starter is used to add a template for DNN in Visual Studio or Visual Web Express

The install version is used for those who just want to install DNN and not do modifications

The upgrade is used for existing sites to upgrade to that version.

DNN requires a database - either MS SQL 2000 or 2005 OR SQL Express (which is a free download from Microsoft)

I would suggest reading the install instructions before starting - Any questions, juist post them here.
