Hi,

I want users of the forum to have their avatar displayed with their posting but although I have enabled this is does not display. Also can the avatar be displayed in the users profile?

I am using DNN434 and the latest release of the forum

I am looking into possible bugs w/ the Avatars. I am currently changing how the work as well.

As for the profile question, I am not sure if you mean forum profile or core site profile. Core site profile requires you setting up some special stuff via the profile manager from User Accounts. To implement this can be done in several ways, but the one which I think is correct requires some custom programming and setting up your dnn to display this.

I would like to see Avatars work like this:

1. Define a url for the avatar

2. Browse a local "gallery", just define the path to a parent folder that holds images. Allow the user to browse that folder and any subfolders for the avatar they are after. Simply display a page that shows the avatars.

We are moving from phpbb and that is how they did it. I hate to "copy" but I do not know of any better way to do it. I have a large collection of football helmets etc that the users can choose from.

I am certain 1 will be in there. As for 2, I am really trying to think of a different way to phase that in. I have currently removed the gallery project from this module (I don't want dependance on anything that is not core). Phase I is what I will be doing for the next release, and I am not certain how this will work yet but basically you will be able to upload a file, select it from a drop down list, hopefully have an inline display of the currently selected drop down list item. I think this won't be too difficult, can adhere to the core API because of security reasons and will buy me some time.

Right now I am also in the middle of really overhauling the gallery module. I am considering taking parts of the gallery module, combining it with the core's URL Controller and handling image processing there. Once that is complete, I can hopefully sneak it into the core. Once in the core, I can use the same upload/image engine in the forum and gallery as well as any other module using DNN and remove this from both projects. (Think of UDT being able to have this type of image provider).

Is there a way to backup everything in the forum on my site? Whenever you come out with a new version, I don't want to lose all the threads/posts that are currently in my forum. Is this a possibility?
