Out of interest, I was just wondering what the most common font and font-size was on DNN websites.

In my DeJaVu skin on Smart-Thnker, the Normal css style is:
.Normal,.NormalDisabled
{
font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica;
font-size: 11px;
font-weight: normal;
}

I think I prefer Verdana - are there any preferences on readbility?

Here is an article on it:

I've always been under the impression that Verdana is the best for readability.  Especially at small sizes.

I always seem to think 11px is right for my eyes, but I have a lot of people complain that ask for 12px.

I usually use:

BODY, TABLE
{
  font-size: 10pt;
  color: #000000;
  font-style: normal;
  font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}

.Normal
{
  font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
  font-size: 10pt;
  font-weight: normal;
}

Like you, I think Verdana is the most readable font (Tahoma is good too).  And I use 8pt sections for some of the large blocks of text on www.inventua.com so they fit in better.

You're right, Anthony. Verdana is perhaps the best font for showing complex language.

I myself prefer using Verdana 12px for normal text but can anyone tell me what's the different between px and pt?

Hmm - yes, Verdana suits your site skin - I tried it on mine (10pt Verdana) but I think I have too much verbose text and it was a bit hard to read. Will experiement some more...
