What is the procedure one takes to make a backup of my DNN web site to store locally on my system (not trusing hosting provider to do it adequately)?

I can think of many things, but figured that there must be a standard method that DNN sites use.

My host has an online utility where I can create backup files of my database.  I do that and then FTP it down with the rest of the DNN bits in my install directory.  You are right not to trust your hosts.  Even if they do perform reliable backups, you may find (as I just did) that they do not retain them for very long and they will likely charge you if you do need to restore from tape.  I've been working on a problem site that will not come up any longer.  My first instinct was to just restore from tape, but I decided against it once I found out it would cost $60 and I didn't want to interrupt the work of a new client that had been creating a lot of new content on his site since the problem started.  So, I've worked on the problem for the past 8 days and have finally given up and asked my host to restore my database from tape to where it was before the problem started.  Now they tell me they only keep backups for 5 days!!!  Looks like I'll be re-creating the site from scratch :(  Some of the content will not be able to be recreated (forums, etc.)  I'm just sick...

Thanks for the response Chris, and pardon my ignorance, but your response really doesn't help me.

I am being hosted by WebHost4Life, so I really don't know how I would go about making a "backup of my DNN installation folder" nor a "full databae backup". Is it as simple as using FTP to copy all files from the DNN folder down to my local computer?

And if I had that information, how would I move that installation to another host, for example? Just restore the files?

I think we have a separate from the group in this forum that are developers and expert users to those that just want to use DNN without all the expert knowledge.
