Your satire went right over my head - until I reread my post!  Aghh!  Here's what I did to cure the problem.

First, I went back to square one and unzipped the install file for 3.3.4 [<;o)] into my dotnetnuke folder.  I then made the corrections to the new release.config file for the machine keys and database string.  I then renamed the release config to web config and............VIOLA!!...........it worked!

I suspect my copying and pasting were not very good the last time around.  Thanks for taking the time to assist me.  I will try to be more specific in future posts.  btw - could I have just run the upgrade package instead of the install package OR do I need to now run the upgrade package AFTER running the install package for 3.3.4?

I am glad it works now.

Regarding the upgrade package, it contains the same code as the install, except web.config and all modules are missing, so it is easier to keep existing module versions. If you want to upgrade all DotNetNuke project modules to its latest versions as well, use the install package (but backup your web.config first).
