Hi,

I went through all the trackback posts on this forum and yet I cannot make it work. I consistently cannot make it work. I know consistency is great, but right now I'm pulling my hair out. Anyway I am posting here the consistent steps I used hoping someone will find something wrong in the way I do things.

Here are the questions I am trying to answer:
  1. Am I doing the right steps for the expected results?
  2. If I do anybody have any ideas why this might not be working as expected?
  3. Are there limitations as to where the server sits intranet / extranet?

Win2003 Server:
  • Fresh install in a virtual machine.
  • Fixed IP.
  • Server is accessible on our intranet only.
  • Database: SQL Server 2005 STD

IIS:
  • Installation was originally done in the default website as another site for access this way http://intranet/dnn
  • I then created a new website from the root of the machine and named it Intranet in order to remove the need for the user to type the /dnn. This website point to the same dotnetnuke install folder as the one above.
  • Following that I repeated the last step and created an other site for intranetBeta which point to the same install as the other 2.
  • The default site and intranet points to the same portal and intranetbeta point to the test portal.

Dotnetnuke Setup:
  • v4.3.4 installation. Installation went smoothly without error
  • added portal alias for the initial site for intranet and ip/dnn for easy access
  • created a new portal which have an alias of intranetbeta.
  • Turned on Active directory authentication using the authentication module. Did not change the web.config to allow automatic signon
  • Updated dbo.AddUser sp to use firstname + LastName as displayName when display name is empty.
  • Logged on using my AD credentials -> User automatically created in dnn
  • Logged on as admin and created a dummy blogger account for trackback testing
  • added both user to the blogger role
Blog Module:
  • Added a blog module to the test portal intrabeta
  • Gave permission to the blogger group to edit the 'create new blog' and 'view blog' modules
  • logged on as me and created a new blog with the following options turned on
    • Make this blog public
    • Allow users to post comments
    • Allow trackback comments
    • Send mail notification...
    • syndicate this blog
  • Add Entry leaving the trackback url empty
  • logout me
  • logon as dummyBlogger
  • Create new blog with same settings as me
  • navigate to my blog post and click on the trackback link
  • xml file is shown in firefox. Xml file has a valid format
  • Copy the url
  • Add blog entry
    • Title and body "Test Blog Entry for trackback"
    • paste the trackback url "http://intranetbeta/DesktopModules/Blog/Trackback.aspx?id=10" in the trackback Url box at the bottom of the entry
  • Click Update
  • logout dummyBlogger
Then I navigate to my original blog post and expect a comment to be there, but there is none.

Thanks for your help

Jean-Francois
