I see alot of people posting questions about "'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission" and it seems that almost all of these people end up being hosted at 1and1.com.  I have also seen a few people post that they have DotNetNuke running at 1and1.com but I have not yet seen any real details on what it takes to get it working.

Does anyone have real instructions on how to get DotNetNuke running at 1and1.com?  I have tried 3 different versions, I have followed both available FAQ articles about installation of DNN and yet I still get this error.  The strange thing is that the error comes and goes.  Things will work fine for a while then stop working, the same operation that worked ten minutes ago doesn't work now, etc...   Something crazy is going on at 1and1.com and I would really love to be able to use DNN.

Can anyone that really knows how to get DNN to work at 1and1.com help out?

Many thanks in advance

Jon

After a week of struggling with 1and1 trying to get the latest DNN3 working I finally gave up and we are porting our domains over to DotNetPark instead.  1and1 suppport kept me on hold forever and didn't seem to have a clue about it.

That's pretty much what I expected to hear and also my experiance.  I did get to speak with a 1and1 tech support person but he didn't know anything about .netnuke so escilated my ticket to the next teir who promptly told me to take a hike because they don't support it.  I wonder, how is it that they have "configuration instructions" in their FAQ if they don't support the product.

Oh well.

What made you go with DotNetPark rather then some other host?  I was thinking of Webhost4life, but really only because it was the first option I saw (banner here) and they seem to offer everything that 1and1 offers at a much lower price, plus dotnetnuke.

I contacted their support, via mail/form - asking which CMS they supported.  They stated they support .netnuke.

I've tried for several days to get it stable - one site will randomly require 'windows' file logon, the other just doesn't work at all.

It appears to be an issue with their WebFiles application - it is not providing/changing folder/file/subfolder permissions like it is supposed to.  OK - it just flat out doesn't work.

I'm curious, too.  Where's the best all-around windows-based host that pushed dotnetnuke (or some other ASP/X) CMS?  The pro for the 1and1 developer is

  • 150gb of space
  • Golive CS
  • Adobe Photoshop LE

Those items are nice - but... do the other host provide similar tools?
