I noticed something less logical when turning user selectable skins on or off. I expected that when turning off the option for user to select their own theme, that all user would from that moment on be using the theme as set in the forum configuration. However, this is not the case, so the user might be fixed in one theme, while he can never change it again.

This might be important when a portal administrator wants to remove a theme from the module.....

Cheers,

That is not the case.  The problem here is cache.  I have tested this numerous times.  Time and time again I have setup an install and entered as several different users.  I have then gone back and switched it to non selectable by users.  It has always worked as expected.

Actually, it was a bit more subtle than caching even.

I tried to reproduce my steps, and accidentally found out what i did that caused this. When logged on as admin, i first set my personal theme different from the forum setting. Then i went to configuration, and disabled user selectable themes. However i did not change the theme in the configuration. So after getting back to the forum, it was still in my personal theme..... even after log off - log on.

So then i tried it again, but now, i also changed the theme setting in forum configuration. Now, my personal theme changed to the forum theme. So, as far as i can deduct, just unchecking the option for user selectable skins does not reset skins for users. However, if you select another skin after that, the user skins will reset....

Can you confirm that this is the way it works, and that it should work this way?

cheers,

erik

Erik, thanks for further investigation.  I will check this out later when I am at home.

If that is the way it works, that is not how it should work.  You definately would have to save the configuration settings once, but not necessarily change the skin.  The way it is programmed I honestly don't know how it could still allow user selection regardless of changing the skin.

If it is working the way you say, first thing i would do is repeat steps.  Then change to not allow user selection but not change skin.  I would clear cache and try a couple accounts that i know are using a different skin.
