Hello!

If you weren't aware of this, you should be!

If you have multiple DNN portals using the Forum module, a person who is a moderator on 1 parent portal can see moderation for EVERY SINGLE forum on all parent portals across your entire DNN install.

Yikes!

This should get an emergency fix :)

I am well aware of this. This is one of the reasons there is a re-write going on of the module permissions now. As for emergency fix, this will not happen. Don't expect to see another forum release for another month at least.

To be clear, there are other factors that play into this. This requires a user account going across more than a single portal first of all. Second, this only happens for global moderators. Third and final item is that private forums are not affected by this in any manner because private forums are permission based per forum. You can techinically block an administrator from viewing a private forum if you desired (although they could just change the module role permissions).

If anybody else is using the Forums with the intent to use them securely in an environment with multiple parent portals, then I highly recommend applying the following security fix:

Disable Moderation in the source code

If you do not, then the security issue I've explained will easily happen quite often.

Tim, I have tried this and I am having an issue recreating it nearly as consistently as you say you are. Can you please touch on the global moderator vs. per forum aspect a bit?

I sure can!  I'm at work now so I'll do it when I get home.  I'll try and provide you with a video of it.

BTW - My site has a tad over 1100 forums created with this module and growing by over 100 new forum instances per day.
