Okay, most changes are complete on this design. I have one more issue that I need help with. My separator in the XML file is set simply to this:

<Setting>
    <Name>separator</Name>
    <Value><![CDATA[&nbsp;&nbsp;|&nbsp;&nbsp;]]></Value>
</Setting>
<Setting>
    <Name>separatecss</Name>
    <Value>true</Value>
</Setting>

But on the menu, the nonbreaking spaces show up as white and in the source, there is a load of HTML that I have no idea where and how it got there. Please, help me with this: I just want the menu items to be separated by a simple |  and that's it.
