Hello Everyone,

Firstly, please forgive my ignorance as a DNN user.  We recently lost the engineer administrating our website and I've only had basic editing experience with it.
I need to do some maintenance and according to the books I've read I'll need to be logged in as Host because my Admin account just won't cut the cake.  Unfortunately we do not have the Host password.  Is there a way I can reset this password?  My ultimate goal is to change our SMTP server and allow certain file types to be uploaded.  My DNN Asp.Net book is telling me to be logged in as Host and I just don't have the same options under the Admin login.

thanks very much for your help.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem but with a strange twist.
I'm also a newbie and just got the latest DNN4 installed on my server. I logged in to the admin and host accounts with the default password and changed them. Then I logged out and back in to be sure they worked, and they did.

Now it's a day later and I cannot log in to either of those accounts. I searched and found this post which seems to be a nice simple fix, but when after I change my password with the script, I still cannot log in. I've double-check my caps lock key and tried to think of any other forehead-slapping mistakes and can;t come up with anyting. Anyone got any ideas as to what's happening to my passwords? I'm going to try and get smtp going (not currently set up) and see if I get emailed the password I'm expecting. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Matt

I must state some problem with this:
  1. The newer versions use "dnnhost" for Superuser account instead of "host".
  2. DNN use SHA1 to encript password, which means if you typed in "password" it will be sent and saved onto the database as something like "uRxl1FfDw6pK3+88DhTNbgkldZMJ2KhsfCGQz7w7T9/81l/NuF0aGA==". A little trick should help you workaround this: create a new account then copy the password strings (password and passwordsalt) to the account you want to recover password, then login with the above password!!
