Here is my situation, just wondering if anyone would share some feedback.

I am in the process of setting up a bunch of portals (50 - 100) for some of my customers. I am planning to use 1 codebase and 1 db for now. One of the most important modules that i am looking at is the forum module. Here is the situation: I am a C# developer. If i buy active forum then it is ok but if the users come up with new requirements then it becomes a problem as i am not sure if i can modify the source. Also in a scenario if the clients request a dedicated codebase/portal then it becomes expensive purchasing so many licenses for Active forum. Also since it is VB.Net i will need to learn it. The same is the case with DNN core forum. So, should i develop a new forum from scratch or just learn VB.Net and use DNN core forum. Just wondering if any others were in a similar situation and would care to share their experience.

Thanks,

Sai

I would say learn Vb.Net. Its not all that much different from C#. I have not looked at Active Forums in a while, but a forum module is complicated and take a fair amount of time to build. You could probably spend less time learning Vb than you would spend building one from scratch.

If I (VB) would have the choice to either learn C# or build my own forum, I would learn C# for sure.
It has one other advantage, it's usefull to know some VB if you working with DNN anyway...

There is an "open source" forum project called DnnBB in C# but it doesn't seem to be sharing its source code! Maybe you could contact the owners.
