Hi,

I am testing DNN 4.3.4 on a relatively dated server with PageBlaster installed. When I'm not logged in, normally the pages load very fast due to pageblaster. Sometimes, for instance on the homepage it takes ages to load. When logged in DNN is very very slow. Often it seems to hang and you will have to reload to actually get it to load a page (in decent time).

The slowness experience is also present on a modern development machine. So it's not just the lousy hardware.

Also, when I check the CPU it seems to take a heavy hit on logged in user operations. Often it is at 100% for a time.

My questions are as follows:

* What can be done to up the performance of the homepage to always load fast. You don't want 125 people to start their computer in the morning, hit the homepage and have the machine churn away for minutes.
Would a solution be to hit the homepage automatically periodically to ensure it is cached?
Do I need to set up a seperate reverse proxy server, e.g. Squid?

* What are general considerations to maximize performance?

Kind regards,

Marc

Hi Marc,

I'm glad that PageBlaster is at least getting you part way there.

There are some very nice performance enhancements being done to the core of DNN for the logged in problems you are experiencing which should help us a lot there also.

You may also want to get a "lighter" CSS based navigation menu then the default one.

Also, you can go to host settings and increse the caching level to "heavy caching" (default is moderate).

Keeping your home page alive will help for the first visit to your site, especially if you don't have enough traffic to keep requests coming in every fifteen minutes or so.
