Hi,

Having difficult with the repository dashboard and RSS.

I can successfully publish the RSS channel for the repository, but I am unable to retreive any of the XML data from the dashboard module.

Of course, I have enabled the RSS (syndicate option) for the dashboard moduel and I have tried flushing the cache of the DNN site in question.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this topic.

cheers,

g

Hi Greg,

I may be wrong here, but I don't think there is an RSS feed on the dashboards - only the main repository.

Rodney,

Thanks for your quick reply.

Yep, that makes sense - I will just parse the RSS XML and compile my own dashboard dataset.

On another note, do you know how to kick off a download of a file in the repository?

I am trying to access files from a local VB.NET app (hence the grm2 ID in the RSS XML) and would like to automatically extract the relevant files from the repository.

If the repository can't provide this functionality, any other solutions would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,

g

Greg,

When you say kick off a download with your VB app - can you go into more detail? All I know is that if you prefix the text with "http://" in the "Download" field in the main table then it is rendered as a link, otherwise the template displays it with a "Download" button as it thinks it is a file.

Rodney,

Your response sounds very interesting.

Here is what I am hoping to achieve with a local VB.NET application. Through an RSS push/feed, I am hoping to present a number of "updated" modules to the user.

The user is then able to "Download/Install" to install all of the updates or "Advanced" to install a selected number. Think of the functionality of Windows update to get an idea of what I am trying to achieve.

The DNN Repository offers a secure holding place for our subscribing customers and provides the RSS capability.

I have reviewd the XML data for the Repository XML feed and it appears that there is a GUID field that points directly to the file. Good News!

Now I need a way to download that file via a URL or a URI in Microsoft VB.NET speak. In effect, I need a url that directly references the file and if placed in the address space in Mozilla (or IE) would automatically start a link. My code can handle automatic redirects, so thats fine as long I can get some sort of handle on the file location etc.

After reading your response, I reviewed the grmRepository tables and could not find the Download filed. So, errrm what main table includes this file?

Looking forward to your response.

cheers,

g
