The subject line says it all, but to clarify, I created a brand new DNN 3.2.1 site on my localhost, made sure host and admin could login (did not change pswds), and noted the hased passwords in the DB.  Then I used the upgrade package to bring the site up to DNN 3.3.4.  After the upgrade neither host nor admin users could login (acted like the passwords were wrong).  But the hashed passwords in the table had not changed.

I have searched the forum for this problem, and have seen it eported before, but so far nobody has given any kind of answer.

Did you read the manual before upgrading?

You will have to verify that your MachineValidationKey and MachineDecryptionKey (At web.config) are the same as in your old web.config (Hope you made a backup)

Ah --- yes.  Not enough of it, apparently.  Poster after you was thankfully a little more willing to unburden himself of a little of what the manual contained.  Makes perfect sense, and I do remember reading about this a bit previously, but somehow the connection didn't make quite the connection, if you get what I mean.  Interestingly, I've done a couple of these tests before -- successfully! -- having not made any change to the machineencryptionkey etc.  Random chance does sometimes trip one up.

Thanks for the advice to RTFM, though.  I needed that.
