I've tried many configurations but still get "Could not connect to Database.."

Using SQL Express. Do you have to use the string;

Database=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\DotNetNuke.mdf

to locate the database? In both lines (Add Name & Add Key)?

I can't move the database to the App_Data folder, it's locked and I don't know
which application is holding it open. (Server 2003)

Anyone with SQL Express and a working 4.3.4 web.config string (with default location)?

thanks,

I installed it from the starterkit and had no problem at all. I followed the instrucions in the post from Shauwn Walker.

Hopefully thiss will get you up and running.

Regards,

Marc

PS: Here is my example of the connectionstring (SQLexpress & DNN 434):

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|DotNetNuke.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I am installing from the webpage installation. Copy to folder, create database and run from browser install.

For |DataDirectory| do you use;
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\"

Fitz,

My installation is in c:\DotNetNuke and the database is placed as an mdb-file in c:\DotNetNuke\App_Data.

The only references i could find to the datadirectory, in the web.config, were in the appsettings & connectionstrings. There was no reference to the actual physical location on my computer.

I have installed the same way in the past. As far as i can recall, i only changed the name of the database from "database" to "DotNetNuke" and afterwards fire the localhost/DotNetNuke to set it up.

I know that Shaun Walker made an excellent blog about how to install from starterkit. Maybe this will help you: http://dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryID/453/Default.aspx
