I am about to give up.  I posted here once before and didn't get any suggestions.  I am hoping my last ditch effort will give me some leads. ANY leads.

I have spent weeks searching the internet for some type of hands-on DNN training.  Take Note Technologies has informed me they are no longer offereing DNN classes.  A few other people have offered night time or weekend WebEX training, but I am looking for an intructor led class.

A little background:

My coworker and I are looking for training in DNN. We can travel anywhere in US  or host training in Maine or Washington State. (Co-worker, Darcy is in Washington, I am in Maine).

We both “inherited” DNN sites for our respective companies.  We work at sister companies both owned (along with five other companies) by Tyler Technologies.  Over the past two years we have worked at updating and maintaining these sites.  We work with modules which came packaged with DNN and that were custom built by a webmaster here.  On a regular day either of us might edit existing text on the site, build new pages or sections of site, authorize customer users to site, monitor site log, etc.

My site is here:
http://www.tyler-munis.com/
Darcy’s is here:
http://www.tyler-eden.com/

We have now been charged with developing a site that combines our  two sites and all the other Tyler sites.  (We both do minor maintenance on most of the other sites too).  We have plans of how we want it to look and work and the content we want to include, and are close to the execution/ building stage.

Neither of us have ever worked with skins, and both feel there is probably a lot we could learn about DNN since neither of us has had formal training in it, just  a lot of self teaching and some lessons from our webmaster.  Utlimately, we'd love to be able to build modules and skins and gain a deeper understaing the product as a whole.

Does ANYONE have any suggestions?

It makes me feel odd that it is so difficult to find training in a product.

THANK YOU  FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER

Hi Amy,

I'm sorry you're not finding what you are looking for.  I would think that there would be someone out there willing to take this on, but most likely what you are encountering is that DotNetNuke is more of a self-taught platform geared towards developers.

I work on DNN part-time and have a full time day job, as I know many other developers do.

Still, it has a very large ecosystem surrounding it, so there should be someone willing to help you out, but you may need to "settle" for some more informal type training.

You might want to try posting your request at http://www.dnnguru.com.

Thank you for responding. I'll post this question on the other forum as well. If the people who use DNN are all self-taught, what resources are the most recommended for learning? Is there something particularly helpful? I still really hope to find a class or an instructor but I'll take any advice I can get now.

Also, you may have already tried this, but if you check with each of your local .Net User Groups there is usually members there that are versed in DotNetNuke.

Finding someone local may be just what you need.

Hi Amy,

I've worked (indirectly) with some of the Tyler companies (Incode, Munis) in the past.  Please send me your contact info so we can discuss things.

Thanks,

Kyle
