Hi,

Does anyone know of a module that can create user groups, i.e. allow users to join a group or add other users to thier groups - like a 'mates' list??

I am aware of modules such as Smart-thinker Usergroups which uses data created in a seperate table to the DNN core attributes.  But does anyone know of a module like this that uses the DNN Core??

If it dosent exist, any tips on how to create this type of function?

I'm using DNN 4.3.4 if that makes a difference to anyone!

Thanks in advance,

Anna

Hi Anna,

Just for the record, I am about to release the next version of this module and it has doubled in size - I have modelled it on MySpace Groups and it works well to maintain lists of friends (I am heading towards this)

A cool new feature is integration with Scott's Private Messages so Group Owners can send bulletins to group members. As always you can add Groups to events which makes this nice and easy.

Check back tomorrow for the Trial...

Out of interest, here is an article on the importance of User Groups in Social Networks (and how it affected Friendster). Interesting read...

I managed to get a beta version of the new version up on PokerDIY for some dogfooding, and I found a few issues that I will fix today and tomorrow (minor things like Private Groups being included in Group Counts etc.)

If you want a preview you can see it here (Logged out users can browse groups by Category or Country and search on tags etc... but to create/join a group you will need to log in...

If you have any feedback let me know ASAP as I plan on releasing it tomorrow.

Hi,

It looks great, nice and clean and simple to use!

Couple of questions...

  1. Does it use the DNN User Management/Registration table for user information?
  2. Do you have to have your other modules working on the site for it to work?
  3. Do users have their own private groups or are they all public? i.e. do users have to be invited to join, or can they join any?  Or is there the option for either when creating the group?
  4. What level of control do you have when creating a group? i.e. maximum numbers, particular roles that can join or cant etc..
