I've tried and tried in VB and C# to use the module template to create a new module and it never works.  I follow the instructions for renaming my folders (annoying but doable) but then I notice that none of the subfiles have been named after my module.  Strange.  Also the SqlDataProvider doesn't get updated which seems to be normal in the newer 4.0. versions of DNN.  Ugh.  Is there a tutuorial out there that actually works the way the template works?  Help!  This is so frustrating.  DNN seems so sweet but creating modules is so sour!

Hi,

There are some extra steps that you have to do which are related to some limitation imposed by visual studio templates.
This is a great article that should help you:

This tutorial helped me out a lot: http://adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN_Module4/Default.htm

For the naming problem; Visual Studio 2005 by default will just give the directories 'Modulename', so you have to change it back manually and make sure all references inside your module accurately refelect the real name you have assigned the module. Just do a big search + replace on the text 'modulename' on all files and you should nail them all.

Also remember that in v4.3.3  (until the recent 4.3.5 update), there was problem with the files destined for the App_Code directory not working when you upload the module through the standard upload interface; the only way to get it working was to exclude the App_code references in your .dnn module config file and then FTP the App_code directory for that module directly up into the server.

If you upgrade to 4.3.5 you shouldn't have to do that (annoying) step.

Awesome, thanks to both of you for that information.  I'll check it out!
