I'm running 4.3.5 upgrade no problem, along with several instances of earlier versions.  However I just downloaded and installed 4.3.5 Install, to do some testing, and got this error.  Very strange, especially that nobody else has experienced it; maybe the download was just repackaged and this error was introduced?  Or my package got corrupted somehow?

Anyway I was able easily to overcome the problem by manually adding the Reports folder to the App_Code directory after unzipping the install package.

This is the full text from the server's application log:

I had the exact same problem - it was installing fine until it hit installing Reports module.

I tried to run it again, and was informed that the Reports folder is missing from App_Code.  I manually put it there, and ran the code again.

Unfortunately, it does not go to the install URL; so I got another error.

What's the best course of action - just reinstall the whole thing, or maybe someone can tell me the install URL and I can try it again?

Someone in Core really needs to answer this. This issue has been reported everywhere.

I have had that happen when I used the web.config file from an already installed site on a new installation. I thought I would save myself the trouble adding all of the third party info to the web.config, so I just copied the file from an already running site to a fresh install, changed the connection strings for the new db and thats the error I received. I did not investigate what is changed in the web.config on install, so I can't help you there, I just started from scratch with a new web.config and added all my other entries.

I have this happen EVERY time I do a DNN4+. I have to change the machine.config file to remove the line thats now somehow gotten into that file when I was testing a build.  I did report it, and was told something was changed so this shouldn't happen again, however, for me it does, as well as lots of other little quirks about DNN I rarely bother to report any more.  I found a work around.

Since it even affected a NON DNN installation I did on the xigla software, it made me aware that it had in fact affected my machine.config file which I am not really comfortable in changing.

However, to get around it - this is what I do - Unzip the package you are installing, the put the folder in, and then zip it back up again.  If you are setting up sites manually, like I am for now - then you will need to make sure it's in there before hitting the build button.

Since I strip back the DNN installation file anyway, it' not a problem any more. I don't install that module anway - so I find it doubly frustrating because you'd think if it wasn't there it shouldn't happen.

If it continues to happen, then I would say you need the machine.config file in the windows aspnet framework folder.

So try that and see if doesn't make a difference to the installation.
