Good Morning,

I am trying to update a file on the file system using the documents module. What I am doing is basically uploading a file with an identical name to a file that is already on the file system, only larger as it is a log file that is updated weekly.

I am getting the following error:

An Error Has Occurred When Attempting To Save The File E:\Websites\Intranet\Portals\0\Accounting\Refund logs- 2006.xls. Please Contact Your Hosting Provider To Ensure The Appropriate Security Settings Have Been Enabled On The Server.

I am sure I was able to do this running DNN 4.3.4 (I upgraded to 4.3.5 on Sunday) I am using Documents module 3.1.5

Has anyone else experienced this? I can't even do this logged in as admin. I shouldn't have to delete the old file through the file manager whenever the users need to upload the updated version.

Am I missing something?

Have you checked the file permissions on the file system to make sure the appropriate user has rights? (network service, or aspnet, depending on your OS)

You have to make sure the nested folders have the correct permissions also and not just the root.

The thing is, the user already has permission and can successfully upload files; the error pops up when they try to update files.

As it stands now, the user has to contact me and I have to delete the file through the DNN file manager so they can upload the updated file. I was able to do this (as admin) before the update but I can't even do it now myself.

Just for clarification:

1. On Monday someone uploads a file called "123.xls" to the folder "root\accounting\" with no problems.

2. On Tuesday when they try to update that same file "123.xls" which has lines added and is therefore a larger file, to the same folder "root\accounting\" they now get a permission error.

This was possible in 4.3.4, for some reason we can't overwrite files now.

I'm likewise finding the same problem on uploading a file with the same filename as one previously uploaded, not only in the Documents module but also in the Repository and the File Manager itself.  No exceptions are being logged. In version 4.3.4 and earlier, the previous file was replaced without error.  Something has changed between the versions as it relates to permissions during the save of a stream to a file  when the file already exists.  There is also another recent thread (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/-1/threadid/58979/scope/posts/Default.aspx) in the forums relating to the same issue, but that one seemed to indicate the problem was also showing up in versions 3.3.4 and 4.3.4.
