I'm trying to tune my dnn install for maximum performance.  Is there any guides out there detailing what we should do to keep our dnn installs running fast?

  • Should I be running any db maintenance scripts?
  • What method of Session State will offer the best performance in a multi threaded instance of DNN?
  • How often should I recycle the Application?
  • How can I tune DNN to run properly with the IIS Application Pool set to use more than 1 processor?
  • Is there any way to streamline the viewstate?
  • Which caching methods on the host settings tab would yield the best performance.

I've currently got DNN running on a single PC with 8gb of memory, 2 x Dual Core Opterons (4 cores total) and a 5 disk array.  The Database and IIS are both installed on the same machine but I can't seem to get DNN to run within IIS under more than 1 thread.  I've set the session state to the state server which seemed like the best comprimipse between scalability and performance, then I set the webfarm support in the web.config.  Seems like the dnn didn't like that setup as it couldn't find the cached files, even though they seem to exist in the cache folder on the file system.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Most of the maintenance scripts are included under the scheduler, but also be sure to clear your error log once in a while (log viewer).

Sessions are not used in core DNN.

There is lots of discussion on DNN performance in the following thread:

And here is a blog about caching in DNN (which contains a link to another post about Http Cacheability):

John-

I have just downloaded your PageBlaster from your website and am going to install it. I was looking on your forum and seen that you are making a "PageBlaster Pro". I was just wondering the advantages of this module compared to the regular pageblaster. Also, when will this module be available.

The first Pro version will allow you to have more granular control over each page for cache time, and also allow you to do replacements on pages.

The replacement rules engine will be extensible to allow many different options like adding javascript, or doing personalization on cached pages, or tweaking the output to conform to XHtml validation.

I'm hitting a few snags in the UI for configuration because I want it to be as intuitive and easy to use as possible, but I'm hoping to have something ready before the 1st of October.

Great, that will be a wonderful module John! I have just installed to free version of page blaster on my website. I was just wondering if the changes in speed will occur immediately or if it will take a few hours. Thanks for the great module!
