I'm a little apprehensive about the new DotNetNuke incorporation. I not saying it's bad but I just don't know what the implications are to the time and money I've placed in DNN development. For a group that has 300,000 members I'm surprised that there is no discussions about this not even a new thread, am I looking in the wrong place.

What is it about it that makes you apprehensive?

Even though I've pushed DotNetNuke (a few very high profile sites) I've experienced people claiming to have an affinity with DNN that make me nervous when bidding for website contracts. I push for the technology but someone else says "I'm closer to the loop". What I'm worried about, and correct me if I'm wrong, does incorporation and the assignment of a copyright lawyer mean that we could be getting closer to a tighter loop. It's a real problem as I intend to put a lot of money in future development of DDN software and I'm worried about say someone becoming a "recommended DNN developers" or some other tag giving from within the circle that would make my efforts a waste of time. Could such a thing happen?

My thoughts are:  yes, certainly such a thing could happen (and to some extent it actually does happen); but the new corporation doesn't make it any more likely to happen than previously was the case.  In fact, if anything it opens things up, arguably in terms of the "behind the scenes" politics, but certainly at least within the realm of legal ownership and what's on paper.  With the new structure there no longer needs to be a single shareholder.

Is DotNetNuke now owned by someone other than the community that helped develop it? Am I just going around promoting someone elses business, if so am I going to get paid for it? If I write that elusive module that becomes a hit what is going to stop someone from indicating on the DNN site that it's unauthorized or something, and that they recommend something else that's less than arms length to themselves?
