Hi,

If I create a dataset (which gets put into the app_code folder), then rebuild and add an ObjectDataSource to a user control, I don't see the dataset in the list when I configure the ObjectDataSource.

If I do the same in a normal web application it works correctly.

Is DNN stopping this feature from being used or is there something in the web.config file that I need to adjust?

I have just created a business logic layer to talk to the dataset and guess what, it doesn't show when selecting the type in the objectdatasource configuration.

What do other people use when they don't want to use the DNN Dal?

You can get it to work with a little manual editing, Please see the post:

The reason the Object Data Source does not show up is a error with ASP.NET not DotNetNuke. The DotNetNuke DAL is easy to use and requires LESS code than creating the data access layer from scratch. see:

Super-Fast Super-Easy Module (DAL+)

This shows how to use the ObjectDataSource control with DotNetNuke. The trick is you you have to place the ObjectDataSource control on the page manually (without using the wizard). You only need to provide an ID, DataObjectTypeName and TypeName. For example:

<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="ObjectDataSource_ThingsForSale" runat="server" DataObjectTypeName="YourCompany.Modules.ThingsForSale.ThingsForSaleInfo" OnInit="Page_Load" TypeName="YourCompany.Modules.ThingsForSale.ThingsForSaleController">
</asp:ObjectDataSource>

After you do this the ObjcetDataSource wizard will work like normal.

Can I use the DAL+ with separate connections i.e. I need to get information from databases outside of the DNN one.

Regarding objectdatasource, thats good to know that I can set the properties without using the wizard.

Regards

Mike
