Hello:

Just wanted to express my frustration while attempting to search the DNN forum today. Just when you have a problem and need a solution quick, the search engine fails, consistently!!! (I was looking for info on developing modules with multiple view controls, how to load them, etc. This functionality is not well documented but that is another issue.)

The issue with the search is that I executed a search for the keywords “load”, “user”, “control” in the body of the forum entries from the dates of 1/1/2006 to 10/5/2006. After waiting a while the error below was presented:

A critical error has occurred.
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

The same search seems to work fine when searching just the Subject.

There is definitely a problem with the search engine and searches in the body when the date range is big.

In any case, as DNN and the Forum moves forward, I would like to recommend the use of the Google search appliance for the Forum. (I am not affiliated with Google in any way). You can read about these appliances here: http://www.google.com/enterprise/. This appliance would make the life of the Forum admins a lot easier while providing a great service to the users of the Forums. Just imagine having your own Google engine to index and search your content!!!

I have other questions:

Why can’t I enter the search words and just press enter to run the search?

Why can’t I have the option to search in both the Subject and Body of the posts at the same time?

Using a google search appliance is a great idea.

Until that happens, you can use google to search this site now.

Just enter site:dotnetnuke.com after your search terms.

I use it all the time and it works great.

If you could search these forums, you would find this isn't the first thread about this. Is that irony?
