Has anyone ever tried using an RSA key to encrypt the SQL connectionstring in web.config? Microsoft has this "how to" article, but I haven't been able to make it work yet. I'm using Win2K3 Server, DNN 4.3.5 and the .NET Framework 2.0.

Creating the RSA Key:

Encrypting web.config:

I was able to create the RSA key container, and grant access to the Network Service account. But encrypting web.config generates various errors. "Application Not Found", or "configuration file cannot be created", etc.

The first article works fine. You only need to encrypt the connection string, ConfigurationManager will decrypt it automagically (I'm not so sure with ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings).
