Hi All,
Just wondering if someone has tried this.
I want to have a parent portal with multiple child portals.  Upon registering, I want the user to be able to have a choice to join other child portals at the same time.  Follow?

I was looking at the DNN DB and it looks like the only table that ties a user to a portal is the "UserPortal" table.  Is that correct?  So if I add the user to that table (along with giving them the correct user roles for that portal in the UserRoles) then the user should be a member of that secondary portal.  Right?

Anyone have any disagreements, suggestions or advice for this theory...I am sure SOMEONE out there has tried this :-)

Thanks very much!
Gary

PS...On a side note, within the aspnet_Membership and aspnet_User tables...What is the "ApplicationId" field for?  Has nothing to do with portals right?  It seems to be the same for all users.  Thanks!

Ok, while playing around a little within the db, I have found it is not quite as easy as I thought...When trying to add another row to the "UserPortal" table with duplicate userids, the table didn't like that since the userID is used as a primary key :-)

So that option is out, unless I update a whole bunch of core code that I don't want to get into...

Anyone have any suggestions or any kind of work around?  I don't want to have multiple, identical rows in the user tables (basically creating multiple user accounts on the fly), but if that is the only way around this, then I might have to.

THanks!
Gary

The UCanUse Portal Mapper will do this.  There are others out there as well.

As you found out, you can do it yourself, but it's not that easy.  A small investment may be worth it.
