I d/led the source to DNN and I can run that from Visual Studio 2003.  I'm wanting to make changes to the Links Module, so I d/led the source for it (ver. 3.3).  Now the question is, how I can make changes to the module and compile and run the compiled version instead of the one that's installed.  Do I just make changes, compile, .zip and then reinstall in a test environment?  Or can I compile and then copy updated files to my test enviironment?

What I'm trying to do is to go ahead and change the layout from tables to CSS.  I'd also like to learn off of this so that maybe I can be more helpful and be able to develop my own modules.

Thanks!

They way I have my test environment set up at home is to set-up DNN via IIS in XP (use IISAdmin so you have have more than one site) or 2003. Once installed and running, I place the Links files in the proper location. That means just copy over the DesktopModules\Links folder contents with the Links source. Put the .dll in the bin and make sure the DataProvider Project is there as well.

Now you can open up the solution for DNN, add the Links module and the Links Dataprovider projects to the soultion. You can now debug and develop as normal. One thing to note, some people do not like this way as it means compiling a lot of projects at once. I prefer it as speed of compilation is not an issue on my development machine and it gives me the ability to debug thru an issue including DNN core stuff.

doing as your say, there would be couples of files that are absolutely same.

you changed one file  in folder 'desktopmodule\links' ,then the file with same name ( same work too) in DotNetNuke.Modules.Links project should be changed too.

is that true?

sorry for my english.

Your source code is in one area, so when you change it, it would be the proper file. I do not think it is a good idea to have two sets of files that you would have to maintain.
