Okay, here's a situation.

Instead of using DNN login feature, I'd like to write custom login to call existing user table in the production database.

Is there anyone who can give me clue where I can start?

The login is implemented using a provider pattern so you can write your own provider to validate the user.  The best thing to do is download the documentation and have a read to understand how it works for DNN and then how you could modify for your requirement.
