I'm still trying to figure out how to upgrade a DNN site. This link was very useful and I gleaned the trick of setting AutoUpgrade to false from it. So to test things out, I created a fresh DNN site from the 4.0.2 install package and had the aim of upgrading it to 4.3.5. So, after dancing with config files and overwriting the web site with the V4.3.5 upgrade package I pointed a browser at the "install/Install.aspx?mode=Install"page I got some very promising "upgrade successful" messages. These went all the way from 4.0.3 through 4.3.5. Great I thought. Clicked to access the portal. Still looked good (correct skin and no modules visible, just as the site was before the upgrade). However I cannot login. All I get is the old "Login Failed, remember that Passwords are case sensitive" message.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Bill

Whenever you upgrade you need to copy your MachineDecryptionKey and MachineValidationKey to your new web.config

Did you remember to copy the machine validation and decryption keys from your old web.config file?

I followed the instructions inside the Readme.txt located in the documentation folder for the upgrade. Made a backup of the web config. Copied necessary changes back (including the machine key element). But I still receive login failed and both machinekey elements are identical??

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Shea
