Has anyone had any solutions to using Excel Spreadsheets for reading and writing in DNN. I was looking at the GemboxSpreadsheet component for .net as a possible solution. I have the need to add Excel functionality without a lot of extra work for end user's. This would be my first module so I am looking for others who may have used this component or gotten excel files to work with DNN.

There are quite a few solutions on snowcovered to read excel sheets.  I haven't seen anything, though, that provides any interactivity or write functionality.  This question has been posed quite a few times.  If you can get this to work, I'm sure a lot of sites would be interested.

The only way I've been able to get anything to work (basically a hack) is to transform an excel sheet into a csv, convert that to a datagrid, allow the user to interact, and then either export that to xls or csv.  That process is quite crude but works in a pinch.

Thanks for the link. The problem with this module and all of the ones I have seen for DNN is that they really only displays the Excel sheet. We really need to have the interactive ability of Excel where users can fill out the sheet and DNN can retain the data just as you Natively would in Excel. Now Sharepoint allows this but we want to use DNN for our clients and would like the simplicity of just dropping a spreadsheet into DNN and having it work. There are solutions that convert the sheet to ASP or java, but you have to link them to SQL so that eliminates a simple drag and drop operation. I do appreciate all of your thoughts and any help. I am going to commit to developing this module. Hopefully others can benifit from its use in the future.
