Hello everyone!

I just registrered. And this Dotnetnuke sounds really great. So great and free? Where´s the catch? I am though wondering about some stuff:

  • I use a web hotel called Box Hosting (www.box.se)
  • My site is supposed to be hosted at their servers

What do i need do set up and develop my site? What are the requirements? I mean, the asp.net framework and database (which is access, right? Or is it optional?), is the host that shall supply me with this, or how does it work?

I just wanna be sure that it´s working for me before installning! So if anybody can explain for me how it works, i would be really glad!

//Thank you,
//regards, Bjorn, Sweden

you need a host providing Windows hosting with ASP.Net (1.1 for DNN3 and 2.0 for DNN 4) and a MS SQL database (or the option to install MSDE or SQL Express on the server).

Hello,

Many thanks for your reply! My host has Windows hosting with Asp.net 1.1 or 2.0. And have the possibility to hire a MS SQL database, but can´t i use a MS Access database? (or do this complicate stuff)

Thanx,

//Björn

Hi Björn

What i can see www.box.se dont support MS SQL or SQL Express, they "only" support MySql. Therefore i wont work.
You can install DNN 2.1.2 with the access database support. You then have to ask the support to change permissions on some folder. But that DNN version is not so good as DNN 3 or DNN 4. If you have the possiblity to change to www.surftown.se you can get MS SQL for not so much money. I have severel sites there. Now they support DNN 4 since they use ASP.net 2.0.

Dont know if my answered help you.

Good Luck!

Hello there,

So you mean that it´s only the version DNN 2.1.2 that supports Microsoft Access? None of the newer versions work with Microsoft Acess? I just thought that (in the beginning for my personal site) it´s unnecessary to use MS SQL as a database (since it costs money) and better to use MS Access. But i suppose the newer versions of DNN, in contrast, has a better user interface, more advanced functions etc.

Where can i find info about which versions works with which databases?

If you look on the link below you´ll see that Box offers MS SQL as a additional service (that costs a small amount per month):

Thanx for you reply,

regards Björn
