Hi, I was looking through the ClientAPI Caps file, and I noticed XMLHTTP shows opera min version to be 7, and any Safari version.  I thought opera didn't fully support XMLHTTP until 8.01, and Safari until 1.2.

Thanks,
Mike

Good question.

If you look at the next section you will see that those browsers are said to support XMLHTTPJS, meaning they perform their callbacks using the javascript implementation of the xmlhttp object.

Hi Jon,
Forgive my lack of knowledge buy how else would the XMLHTTP request be implemented other than javascript?  Is the XMLHTTP caps for activex controls and java?

Here is some info on supported browsers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMLHttpRequest.  Although I know Opera didn't supoort it until 8.0.1.

Thanks,
Mike

I said a javascript implementation of the xmlhttp object.  Of course javascript will be used to interact with the object.  For IE the xmlhttp object is an ActiveX object included in the browser, for firefox/netscape/mozilla/camino this is a different native object.  For all other browsers I use javascript to dynamically create a hidden IFRAME to make the request.  This implementation is similar to the old Javascript Remote Scripting (JSRS) technique made famous by Brent Ashley way back in 2000.
