I am hosted with USONYX.NET on their VPS plan. Basically we are transferring our files and database from our development environment to the production server. However, I am now stuck with the following errors:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

   DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider.CreateProvider() +38

Not sure how to go about fixing this. Any help is appreciated.

Are you installing a new DNN on the host or are you just copying the files? When do you get this error?

If your installing on the host then make sure that the permissions are setup properly and the database connection is loaded. What is the OS version on the production server and on your development environment?

If your copying files. Make sure that your database connection string is configured properly.

Past your Connection String with the above requested information. Lets see what the issue is.

Check your DB conn strings for the database you are using.  Also make sure you are using .NET Framework 2.0 on this server.
