We are having a problem creating a new link to a file. The file is not on the system so we have to upload it. We can browse to it but we get an error when trying to upload the selected file. I sent the exceptions from the Log Viewer and the following is a excerpt from the log:

<property>

<name>InnerException</name>

<value>Maximum request length exceeded.</value>

</property>

<property>

<name>FileName</name>

<value />

</property>

<property>

<name>FileLineNumber</name>

<value>0</value>

</property>

<property>

<name>FileColumnNumber</name>

<value>0</value>

</property>

<property>

<name>Method</name>

<value>System.Web.HttpRequest.GetEntireRawContent</value>

</property>

<property>

<name>StackTrace</name>

<value />

</property>

<property>

<name>Message</name>

<value>DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Maximum request length exceeded. ---&gt; System.Web.HttpException: Maximum request length exceeded. at System.Web.HttpRequest.GetEntireRawContent() at System.Web.HttpRequest.GetMultipartContent() at System.Web.HttpRequest.FillInFormCollection() at System.Web.HttpRequest.get_Form() at System.Web.HttpRequest.get_HasForm() at System.Web.UI.Page.GetCollectionBasedOnMethod(Boolean dontReturnNull) at System.Web.UI.Page.DeterminePostBackMode() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---</value>

</property>

Does anyone know if this is the maximum length of the file that was exceeded or something else? Is there a way to set the maximum length?

Thanks for any help.

There's a setting in the web.config

<httpRuntime useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" maxRequestLength="8192" requestLengthDiskThreshold="8192" />

Try making the maxrequestlength larger

Larry,

Also, if you're in a shared environment it's entirely possible that the maximum request length is set to a non-overridable value in the Machine.config of the web server. In which case, you would have to upload the file by some other means (such as FTP) to your site and link directly to it.

I changed the maxRequestLength as suggested and that seemed to work.  Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I am having the same problem.  I am using dnn in a hosted environment.  I already edited the web.config file but I still can't upload the file (37 MB).  So, while waiting on support to get back to me, I FTPd the file up to the portals/0 directory.  The dnn file manager sees the file, but the links module does not.

I could just create a link to the file manually, but I need it to be password protected using the previously set up groups in dnn.  Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Laura
