Was wondering if there's any way to encrypt the password the same way DNN does in a SQL stored procedure. The reason for doing this would be to keep passwords sychronized with another application that hashes (rather than encryptes) the password, making it impossible to retrieve the password once it's store. If I could extend the other application to update the user's password on DNN correctly, it would make the integration a lot easier.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bret

encryption is not done by DNN, but by Microsoft Membership Component. Try to integrate this Membership Component into your other App as well and use the same encryption key.

The other app is mostly Cold Fusion, so it may not be possible to integrate the ASPNET membership component in it. However, a solution might be to write a simple command line utility to take a user and password and output the encrypted password the way it would be stored in the database.

Anyone have sample code that encrypts the password the way ASPNET membership does?

TIA,
Bret

I've actually seen this done with a tool from www.xpcrypt.comI never really got into it, but maybe something what you are looking for.

However, I would have to agree with most people here that unless you *can't* update the membership routines from your other app to use the same encryption settings, then this may be the way to go.
