I have a DNN 3 site that has been up and running for a little over 4 months.  Recently my host provider moved the site to a new and faster server.  Once the site was moved I could not login as Host nor Admin and none of the user accounts could login, also it would not alow a new user to register.

After looking a the Web.config file I discovered the <add key="MacineValidationKey" and the <add key="MachineDecryptionKey" values did not match what was on the old server, how that happend ????  So I copied the values from the original config file into the new site config.  Now it will register a new user but it will still not allow the login of any prior user, admin or Host so of course I can not change any thing on the site.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem or will I need to wipe out the site and build it all over again with a fresh copy?

HELP?

Thanks

I once saw a similar problem logging in because the DNN site (.net 2.0) was set up in IIS as 1.1 and not 2.0.  Same behaviour you are describing.  Maybe the inverse is true in your case?  Maybe your IIS is set up for 2.0 and not 1.1?

Did you query the eventlog table to see if anything was getting in there?

Thanks for the reply Shawn but I've check all that and not the problem.

I set up a new protal 3.5 in localhost and changed the values in the web.config file, after loginnig in once and it gives the same error when you tried to login. So I changed it back to the original values but then I get the message "passwords are case sensitive" but still can't login.

I found an article on the forums that I could register a new user then go into the DB and change them to the host so I did and it let me in as host. Now i have a new problem that the e-commerce portal store gives me a cricital error msg and won't open.  I assume that has to do with security and the change I made to the host account so now I need to figure where I can change that record in the database.

I do appreciate you taking your time to help.

Now that you have a fresh registered user you know the password for, you can copy the password and password salt of this new user to the existing host account.  In theory you should then be able to login with the original host account.  Don't know if that will help you in any way though.
